Stephanie Hare is a researcher and broadcaster focusing on technology, politics and history. Selected as a part of the landmark BBC Expert Women initiative, she shares insights on television and radio. She also has a regular radio column that goes out on BBC World Service World Business Report and BBC Radio 4 Business Daily.
This podcast follows on from her talk at Data Summit where she spoke on biometrics and the legislation that exists and also is proposed around the area. Interviewed by Head of Data Science at The Data Lab, Brian Hills, the conversation weaves between this, 5G, data rights and also Stephanie's new book which will be out later this year.

John Mertic is the Director of Program Management for The Linux Foundation. Under his leadership, he has helped ODPi, R Consortium, and Open Mainframe Project accelerate open source innovation and transform industries. John has an open source career spanning two decades, both as a contributor to projects such as SugarCRM and PHP, and in open source leadership roles at SugarCRM, OW2, and OpenSocial. With an extensive open source background, he is a regular speaker at various Linux Foundation and other industry trade shows each year. John is also an avid writer and has authored two books “The Definitive Guide to SugarCRM:Better Business Applications” and “Building on SugarCRM” as well as published articles on IBM Developerworks, Apple Developer Connection, and PHP Architect. In this episode he is interviewed by data scientist at The Data Lab and R Edinburgh organiser, Caterina Constantinescu.

Joanna McKenzie sits down with Liberty Vittert in this edition of The Data Lab's podcast. Liberty is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at Washington University in St. Louis and will be a Visiting Assistant Professor at Harvard University in the Department of Statistics beginning summer of 2019. She is a graduate of MIT as well as Le Cordon Bleu Paris and the University of Glasgow. Her current statistical research involves using facial shape analysis to help children with facial deformities and victims of warfare, and she discusses this at length in the podcast.
Liberty is a regular TV and Radio contributor to many news organizations including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, PBS, and FNC, as well as having her own TV series on STV (ITV). Her opinion editorials feature regularly in outlets such as Popular Science, US News, Newsweek, Business Insider, International Business Times, CBS News, The Conversation, and Fox News. As a Royal Statistical Society Ambassador, BBC Expert Woman, and an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute, Liberty is writing a series of popular science books on how to lie with numbers from the viewpoint of multiple professions. She is also an Associate Editor for the Harvard Data Science Review and is on the board of USA for the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
